“Adventure” was published by D.C. Thomson based in Dundee, Scotland and was the first of the ‘Big Five‘, the others being “The Hotspur”, “The Rover”, “The Skipper” and “The Wizard” running for a total of 1878 issues between 17th September 1921 to 14th January 1961, where it then merged with “The Rover”. It regularly featured illustrated stories of adventure, sports, schooldays, crime, science fiction and jokes. The mix of illustrated serials of many genres and regular free gifts meant that there was something for every reader in every issue and it was a huge seller.
